How Does Dental Insurance Work?

When you pay your monthly premium, you gain access to discounts on a variety of dental treatments. Every plan is a little bit different, but here’s what this generally looks like:

  • 100% coverage for preventive dental treatments
  • 80% coverage for basic restorative procedures
  • 50% coverage for major restorative procedures.

Plans can vary, so it’s always a good idea to check with your provider ahead of time. Generally speaking, lip and tongue-tie treatments can receive anywhere from 50-80% coverage. However, there are some other things to keep in mind:

  • Dental insurance plans renew at the beginning of the calendar year. Benefits do not carry over.
  • You need to meet your deductible for coverage kicks in.
  • Your annual maximum is the designated amount of money that your dental insurance company agrees to pay in a single year. If you don’t reach this amount, the remaining balance is returned to your insurance company.

What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?

Health and dental insurance cards

Medical insurance and dental insurance sound like they would be similar, but they have many key differences. The main one is that dental insurance is focused on preventive care. That’s why most plans include complete coverage for preventive treatments, but basic and complex procedures are covered at a lower rate.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

When looking for a tongue and lip-tie specialist for your child, it is key to know if they are in or out of network. Here’s what this means.

In-Network Coverage

When a dentist is “in-network” with an insurance company, this means that they have mutually agreed on a contract to offer services at set fees. By choosing an in-network dentist, you can better maximize your benefits by paying the lowest possible out-of-pocket cost. At Philadelphia Tongue & Lip-Tie Center, we are proud to be in-network with the following providers:

  • Delta Dental
  • Aetna
  • Cigna

Out-of-Network

If you have a different insurance provider, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you are completely out of luck. Give us a call so we can discuss your plan.
